The professional basketball journey for a former USD Coyote now turns toward Austin, Texas.  Sioux Falls and Austin have completed a trade that will send guard Charlie Westbrook to the Toros and the Skyforce receive guard Tre Kelley.

Westbrook had drawn favorable reviews during Miami Heat training camp appearing in four preseason contests.  Although he didn’t stick with the big club, the Heat/Skyforce partnership worked together to bring Westbrook to Sioux Falls.  During the 10 games in a Skyforce uniform, Westbrook maintained averages of 12 points, 3 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.3 steals per game.  The 6-4 guard from South Dakota also provided some crowd-pleasing athleticism as shown below.

In return, Kelley will join a back court that is somewhat depleted due to the leg injury sustained by Larry Drew II.  A pretty good synopsis of the guard who played college ball at South Carolina is available here.  The short version of Kelley’s history is a hardscrabble upbringing in Washington, D.C. followed by four years as a Gamecock, stints overseas with clubs in Croatia, Israel, Lebanon, Belgium, China, Italy, and Venezuela.  His stateside experience involved NBA training camp in 2009 with Oklahoma City and 2010 with Memphis.  Over three seasons spanning 69 games with Austin, Kelley has averaged 11.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, 5 assists and 1.4 steals per game.
