South Dakota State athletic director Justin Sell, and several members of his coaching staff, were in Sioux Falls Tuesday to pick up the hardware for the Jacks 'South Dakota Showdown' battle with the University of South Dakota.

The Jackrabbits edged the Coyotes 14-13 in the head-to-head athletic and academic contests during the 2012-13 school year to capture the traveling trophy, which is sponsored by South Dakota Corn.

SDSU grabbed points with victories over USD in women's soccer, men's cross country, women's basketball (2 wins), men's basketball, men's and women's swimming and diving, women's tennis, and women's golf.

The Jacks grabbed two points for beating the Coyotes in football.

Each school earned three academic points.

The showdown series victory caps a tremendous year for SDSU athletics.  The Jacks were one of a select group of division one schools in the nation to put men's and women's teams in the NCAA basketball tournament, a team in the football post season, and a team in the NCAA baseball regionals.

After the presentation, SDSU athletic director Justin Sell talked about the South Dakota Showdown, the 2012-13 school year, and the Jackrabbits' plans for future facilities improvements.
