South Dakota State is the number one seed heading into the Summit League Tournament, thanks in large part,  to the top arm in the conference.

Senior Layne Somsen is the Summit League Pitcher of the Year after going 4-4 with a 1.91 ERA this season. He notched quality starts in his first 10 of 11 starts this season, recording 73 strikeouts in 75.1 innings. Opponents hit just .202 off the Yankton native in 2013.

The Jackrabbits put two other players on the Summit League first team: senior pitcher Stephen Bougher and designated hitter Daniel Telford.

Bougher was 7-2 overall 3.28 ERA, while Telford his .427 with five home runs and 31 runs batted in.

South Dakota State (31-21) takes on Western Illinois in the first round of the Summit League Tournament, Thursday in Rochester, Michigan.

The winner of the four-team, double-elimination tournament will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
