After splitting the first weekend of Summit League play on the road, South Dakota State opens the home portion of the conference schedule this week with a Thursday game against Western Illinois and a Saturday game with Omaha

The Jackrabbits opened with a win at IUPUI last Thursday, when Jordan Dykstra and Cody Larson combined for 48 points and SDSU finished the game on a 13-0 run.

Head coach Scott Nagy on the IUPUI game:

Saturday, the Jacks played a very physical game at Fort Wayne, and despite 24 points from Brayden Carlson, were outplayed inside by the Mastodons, who outscored the Jacks 42-16 in the paint and grabbed 12 offensive rebounds.

Head coach Scott Nagy on the Fort Wayne game:

The first week of league play featured two surprises, the Summit's pre-season #1 and #2 teams, North Dakota State and Denver, both losing on the road.

It's a reminder of how competitive the conference is and how difficult it is to win on the road:

This week, the Jackrabbits host Western Illinois Thursday night.

The Leathernecks have developed a reputation the last several years for being a great defensive team and a very deliberate team on offense.

Last season's Summit co-champs with SDSU will try to control the tempo of the game, something Coach Nagy is well aware of:

Tipoff is 7:00pm Thursday night at Frost Arena in Brookings.
