Former University of South Dakota pole vaulter and current Coyote pole vault coach Derek Miles is going into the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division II Track & Field Athlete Hall of Fame this week.

Miles is a three-time Olympian, finishing seventh in Athens in 2004, fourth in Beijing in 2008, and qualifying for the U.S. team in London in 2012.  He also won three USA National Championships and has a personal-best jump of 19-2½.

He was a five-time All-American pole vaulter in Vermillion, also qualifying for the NCAA Division II Championships in long jump, triple jump and decathlon throughout his career. He was named to the Coyote Athletics Hall of Fame in 2006.

Miles will join Kirby Blackley of Findlay, and Randolph Williams of Kentucky State at the induction ceremony, Wednesday, in Pueblo, Colorado, prior to the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships.
