ST. PAUL, Minn.  - Aspiring ballplayers can see if they've got what it takes when the St. Paul Saints hold their annual open tryout Thursday at Midway Stadium.

The tryout is free. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and the tryout at 9 a.m.

Candidates should come ready in baseball attire and cleats, bring their own glove and, if they're a position player, a wooden bat.

Participants can show their talent at only one position. All position players will get a chance to take a few swings. Pitchers will throw bullpen sessions while catchers will show their ability to block balls and throw out baserunners.

If the tryout is rained out it will be rescheduled for Friday at 9 a.m.

The Saints can carry up to 28 players into spring training.
