SIOUX CITY, IA -- The Sioux Falls Stampede outshot the Sioux City Musketeers 24-14, but were unable to find the back of the net and fell in regulation for the first time this season, 2-0 on Saturday night at the Tyson Events Center.

Art Brey stopped 12 of 14 shots in goal as the Herd fell to 1-1-1 on the season, earning two of a possible four points on the weekend.

After a scoreless first period in which the Stampede outshot the Musketeers 8 to 5, both teams continued to play solid defensively in the second and not allowing either team too many quality scoring chances. The Musketeers broke the scoreless tie at 7:16 when Jake Ryczek scored on the powerplay. Ryczek took a pass on the left point and blasted a shot past the stick side of Brey to take a 1-0 lead.

The Stampede would get their second power play opportunity late in the period and nearly scored at the horn, but carried the advantage into the third. Sioux Falls outshot the Musketeers 7 to 6.

Much of the same play continued into the third with Sioux City clanking a shot of the goal post and the Stampede creating some chances, but unable to solve Musketeer goialtender Collin Olson. The Musketeers gave themselves some breathing room at 15:19 of the third when Joe Snively took the puck down the left wing wall and sent a perfect pass in front of the net to Sam Kurker who tipped the puck past Brey to give the Musketeers a 2-0 advantage.

The Herd would pull Brey for the final two minutes of the game to try and get on the board, but the Sioux City defense and Olson wouldn’t allow it and the Herd came up on the wrong end of a 2-0 score.

Sioux Falls outshot Sioux City 9-3 in the third and 24-14 in the game while going 0-for-2 on the power play while Sioux City was 1-for-4.

The Stampede will get a chance for revenge on Friday when they had back down I-29 to face the Musketeers at 7:05 PM.

The Stampede’s home opener is next Saturday, October 11th at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center against the Waterloo Black Hawks. Game time is 7:05 PM.
