As we make the turn at the halfway mark of the 2015 Summit League men's basketball season, it's South Dakota State by a nose heading for home.

And home is exactly where the Jackrabbits find themselves to open the second half, with a pair of games in Brookings this week.

Last week began with a win at Frost Arena, a 82-53 triumph over Fort Wayne. It was a game that could have seen SDSU come in flat after an emotional win over rival South Dakota four days earlier.

I asked head coach Scott Nagy if he shared that concern with his players before facing the Mastodons:

The Jacks ventured on the road Saturday for their first match-up with Oral Roberts, who is back in the Summit League after a three-year absence.  SDSU emerged with their first win ever in Tulsa in six tries, a 76-72 win over the Golden Eagles, to run their win streak to six games.

To do it, they had to overcome yet another slow start, opening the game down seven points after six minutes.  They were led back by Summit League Player of the Week Cody Larson.

The second half of the Summit League schedule starts with Omaha Wednesday night in Brookings.

The Jackrabbits beat the Mavericks by 19 points in Nebraska two weeks ago, but not before falling behind early in the game when UNO was pushing the ball on the fact break.

Coach Nagy says seeing just how much team speed the Mavs have, will help with game planning for the re-match.

Tipoff is 7:00 PM in Brookings Wednesday night.
