A little more than a week after winning the NCAA Championship in the pole vault, South Dakota's Bethany Buell has undergone surgery on her injured left shoulder.

Buell had the surgery last Friday to repair a torn ligament, and told me in a text Monday afternoon:

Surgery went well.

It's been a rough few days, but I think we're getting things under control now.

I start rehabbing in 2 weeks and should be fully recovered in 3-4 months.

Buell injured the shoulder early in the Spring, and went about a month of the season without jumping to let it rest.

She won the national championship June 8th in Eugene, Oregon, with a jump of 14 feet 7 1/4 inches. She later talked with me about the win.

Last week in her native St. Louis, Buell was featured in a story by STLToday.com.
