The Waterloo Black Hawks made short order of the Sioux Falls Stampede, sweeping the Herd out of the USHL playoffs with a 7-2 Game 3 victory Thursday night in the Western Conference Semifinals.

The Waterloo Black Hawks had the most explosive offense in the USHL during the regular season and have carried that over to the postseason. The Hawks downed the Sioux Falls Stampede 7-4 in Game 1 of their Western Conference semifinal series Friday night at Young Arena.

The Sioux Falls Stampede showed no ill-effects of a tough Friday overtime loss, manhandling the Fargo Force 5-3 before a record-breaking crowd of 4,815 at the Arena Saturday night.

Garrett Cecere’s power play goal with 1:16 left in regulation helped lift the Sioux Falls Stampede past the Waterloo Black Hawks 4-2 Sunday afternoon at Young Arena.

Sioux Falls Stampede forward Dennis Kravchenko set up fellow forward C.J. Franklin for the fourth goal of the game that cemented the victory at 13:12 of the third period.

Sioux Falls native Zeb Knutson scored twice and Dennis Kravchenko added an assist to help lead the United States past Russia 8-3 in the first game of the World Junior A Challenge in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia on Tuesday.
