We already knew Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z was coming next year, but Team Ninja is also hard at work on a more traditional Ninja Gaiden.

In a video interview with Keiji Inafune (translated by Siliconera), Team Ninja's Yosuke Hayashi talked a bit about the upcoming action game Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z. Hayashi talked about the fan trepidation towards Yaiba, and offered this offshoot wasn't the only Ninja Gaiden game in the works.

"There have been some Ninja Gaiden fans who have said Yaiba’s not the hardcore action game that they’re looking for. Honestly, they’re a little hesitant about the game," Hayashi said. "To those people I say this: Team Ninja is thinking of the next Ninja Gaiden. For example, if the games were food, the Ninja Gaiden series would be a rich meaty entree and Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z would be dessert. Every course of the meal would be in the same Ninja Gaiden world, but gamers will experience different kinds of play. That’s how Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z will be different."

This is the first we've heard Team Ninja was developing another Ninja Gaiden, but it's good to hear. Whether or not this next entry in the long-running series will make it to next-gen consoles or not remains to be seen, but at least we'll finally have a Ninja Gaiden that isn't just another slightly different version of Ninja Gaiden 2 or Ninja Gaiden 3.
