The 2012 Summer Olympics are over and in my book these will be remembered as the games of women. For the first time in Summer Olympics history, every country represented had at least one female athlete.

For the United States, women outnumbered men on the Olympic team for the first time ever and the American ladies a force to be reckoned with.  Team gold medals in gymnastics, water polo, soccer, rowing, basketball, and beach volleyball, as well as relay wins in the pool and on the track.

Individually, new stars like Gabby Douglas and Missy Franklin emerged, setting the U.S. women up for ever bigger and better things in Rio in 2016!  The men will be hard pressed to keep up.
