In front of a packed crowd at O'Gorman, the Lady Knights (12-4) defeated the top-ranked Sioux Falls Washington Warriors (13-2) 46-41 on Friday night.

That result shouldn't be as surprising as it first sounds.

The O'Gorman Knights have been flying under the radar in Class AA behind Washington and Mitchell. The Knights have now won five straight games. In that five game stretch the Knights have defeated Rapid City Central, Sioux City East, Sioux Falls Lincoln, Sioux Falls Roosevelt, and now Washington.

With the design of getting to the state tournament, the Knights are in a good position heading into their last four regular season games, and the district tournaments. O'Gorman is 4-0 against their district this season.

Katie Messler led the Knights with ten points on the night, while Peyton Bjorkman added nine. Jessica Mieras also scored nine, while Dalee Stene hit a couple of three-pointers in the second half to help pull the Knights ahead.

The Knights will host Yankton on Saturday night.

Sioux Falls Washington is now 13-2 following the loss. If there is one thing I've seen from Washington this season is to not count them down. This was a game that they could have won, and could have controlled. Take a couple of turnovers away and a couple of miscommunications and this could be a completely different story.

Following their first loss of the season, the Warriors countered with a 63-37 win over Sioux Falls Roosevelt. The Warriors looked more determined in that game than I've seen throughout the season. I expect them to have the same type of bounce back when they travel to Rapid City to take on Central and Stevens next weekend.

Leading the way for Washington in the loss was Ellie Benson and Kelsey Knecht, who both had nine points in the game. Michaela Mayer had eight points, and Hannah Nieman scored six. Sydney Koel was held to just three points in the loss.

The next game for the Warriors will be on February 14, as they take on Rapid City Central.
