USD Wraps Non-Conference Home Schedule with Peru State
VERMILLION, SD — South Dakota women’s basketball will host its last non-conference game of the season when Peru State visits the DakotaDome on Saturday for a 5 p.m. tipoff. It will be the first game of a doubleheader with the Coyote men hosting Ball State at 7 p.m.
This will be the first time in 20 years Peru State (4-7) and USD (4-6) will meet on the court. USD has won both prior meetings in the series.
The Coyotes are coming off a 68-54 loss to Kansas State on Dec. 9. USD outscored the Wildcats in the second half (33-31) and received 25 points from non-starters. The team also shot 16 of 17 from the free-throw line.
Nicole Seekamp scored 11 points against KSU and has led the Coyotes in scoring in each of the last three games. She’s averaging 19.3 points and has shot 55.3 percent in that span. Overall this season, she ranks sixth in the Summit League in scoring at 14.3 points per game.
Freshman post player Margaret McCloud has had a string of double-digit rebound performances. McCloud grabbed 12 rebounds against KSU, and has grabbed at least 10 rebounds in the last three games. That run has lifted her to third in the Summit League in rebounds per game at 7.5, and has raised her rebounds per 40 minutes average to 17.4, which is tops in the league.
About Peru State: Peru State, a member of the NAIA’s Heart of America Athletic Conference, is 4-7 entering Saturday night’s game and is coming off a 72-68 win over Culver-Stockton on Dec. 8.
Peru State has allowed 70 points or more six times this season, but has the top stealer in the NAIA in Aduago Osuala, who averages 4.7 steals per game this season.
Osuala also leads the team in scoring at 13.1 points per game, while Courtney Ward averages 12.7 points per game. Ward is Peru State’s career leader in rebounds (989), and is currently second in the NAIA in offensive rebounds per game (5.2).
UP NEXT: South Dakota will begin its final non-conference road trip by traveling to play Utah State on Dec. 20. The Coyotes will finish their non-conference schedule at Boise State on Dec. 22.
