SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (September 2, 2012) – The University of Sioux Falls men’s soccer team was outscored 6-1 today in their season-opener against non-conference opponent William Jewell College. The Cougars drop to 0-1 on the season and WJC moves to 1-0.

Offense was early and often in the first half where four goals were produced, three for the visiting team and one for USF.

WJC got on the board first. Zane Christenson connected with Forrest McCurren for a tap in near the five minute mark.  Seven minutes later, USF responded on a well-executed corner kick. Juan Duque-Delgado found Connor Shefte for his first goal of the season. However, the Cardinals would rebuttal with two more scores by Matt McDevitt (21:56, 26:36) to take a 3-1 lead into the intermission.

The visiting team continued to put pressure on the USF defense and tacked on three insurance goals in the second half. McCurren added his second goal of the day near the 57 minute mark to stretch the Cardinals lead to three. Braverman made it a four score match with a close put back with about 25 minutes to play. McDevitt’s unassisted score gave him his third of the game and represented the final score, 6-1.
