Vikings Debut At Sixth In The First NCAA Central Region Softball Rankings
INDIANAPOLIS, IN — Augustana is ranked sixth in the first edition of the NCAA Central Region Softball rankings released by the NCAA on Wednesday.
The Central Region is made up of teams from the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC), the Great American Conference (GAC) and the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA). The top eight teams will advance to the NCAA region tournament on May 10-12. Automatic bids are granted to the winners of the NSIC and MIAA postseason tournaments, with the remaining six spots awarded on an at-large basis. The GAC does not have an automatic bid this season.
The Vikings are one of four teams from the NSIC in the first edition of the regional rankings. Minnesota State is ranked third, followed by Winona State (fifth), and Minot State (seventh).
Fort Hays State is ranked first, followed by Southeastern Oklahoma State.
Augustana has won 10 straight games and owns an overall record of 25-8 on the season, including 12-4 in NSIC play.
