LOUISVILLE, KY -- The Augustana softball team dropped eight spots to No. 16 in the first edition of the regular season National Fastpitch Coaches Association Top 25 poll.  The Vikings opened the season last weekend with a 4-2 showing, including two wins over two ranked teams, at the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Tucson, Ariz.

Augustana collected 122 points as they fell from the No. 8 slot that they appeared at the preseason poll. Valdosta State held down the top spot in the ranking while there was a major shakeup in the top five.

Southeastern Oklahoma State, winners of the NFCA Leadoff Classic, jumped from being unranked all the way to leading No. 2.  West Texas A&M received votes last week but now sits in third with their 5-1 performance at the same tournament.  North Georgia and Cal State Dominguez Hills slide up from their top 15 position to round out the top five at fourth and fifth, respectively.

The Vikings are idle until their spring break trip in which they travel to Orlando, Fla. for the Rebel Spring Games for 10 games.
