SIOUX FALLS, SD -- Local teams fared well at the NSIC Conference track and field championships at Howard Wood Field.

The Augustana men finished second with 135.5 points.  Minnesota State-Mankato won the team title with 166 points.  The University of Sioux Falls was fourth with 111 points.

Mary won the women's team title with the Vikings placing third with 104 points and the Cougars in fourth place with 90 points.

On Saturday, Augustana's Travis Beniak won the men's 5,000-meter run and was second as part of a 1-2-3 sweep in the 3,000-meter men's steeplechase.  Harald Karbo won the event and Adam Braun came in third. Henrik Hansson won the conference title in the 800-meter run.

The Vikings' Runa Falch was one point away from being the women's high point scorer for the entire meet winning the women's 5,000 meters and placing second 1,500-meter run.   Kayla Mescher earned her second conference title in the 400-meter hurdles.

For USF, the Cougars took five of the top six places in the women's pole vault with Kayla Coffe, Kristin Majerus and Brigitte Gross finishing 1-2-3 in the event.  Jazzelena Black won the conference championship in the long jump.

Sioux Falls' Colin Koth took the 400-meter dash on Saturday.

The NCAA Division II Championships will be held in Pueblo, Colo. on May 23-25.
