Not too long ago Minnesota Vikings defenders had to steer clear of running back Adrian Peterson in practice - or risk losing their job if they hit him while he recovers from knee surgery.

Now heading into the final pre-season game this week, that ban has been lifted - kind of.

You can hit you - you just can't tackle him.  Yes you read that right...

Upper body contact only.  That has made for some interesting situations in practice.

Vikings Head Coach Leslie Frazier told Yahoo! Sports:

"There were times there was nowhere to go and he had to run into people, and he responded well," Frazier said. "That was good to see. There were some good, hard hits. Nothing to the ground, just guys thudding him."

The plan is for Peterson to see his first action of the season when the Vikings open up play September 9th.
