A sluggish second quarter stung the Sioux Falls Skyforce as they fell to Rio Grande Valley Friday night 130-108 at the Sanford Pentagon.

Conversely the fast break was the heartbeat of the Vipers (3-3) attack just before half as a five-point advantage ballooned to eighteen in that 12-minute stretch. Briante Weber who played two seasons with the Skyforce before landing a two-way contract with Houston returned to Sioux Falls (3-3) ignited the attack by scoring seven points with three assists in the quarter.

Skyforce Coach Nevada Smith says there were a couple things that were troubling for the team.

“We had too many stretches where we were really bad on both ends of the floor. They want to play the fastest pace in the league and when you turn it over it’s going to be either two points or three points. We shot 49 three (point shots). That’s not us. Our goal is to initiate some action and get some movement and we were standing a lot.”

The conversion rate for turnovers certainly held sway as RGV had one more miscue than the ‘Force but the visitors scored 27 points to the 17 for Sioux Falls.

Rookie Kris Jenkins is hopeful that one bad night is all that comes from this contest as the two teams will battle again on Saturday (November 18).

“In this league you get a couple opportunities to redeem yourselves on a couple back-to-back games against the same team. Hopefully we can compete harder and leave it all out there and get a win.”

The Vipers got scoring off the bench with R.J. Hunter sinking six from long range on the way to 22 poins as Iowa State’s Monte Morris was right behind with 20. Weber finished with 16 points against his former team.

Erik McCree led the Sioux Falls scoring parade with 20 points with 8 rebounds. Jenkins hit four from long range to finish with 16 points with Tony Mitchell and Matt Williams, Jr. also scoring 16.
