SIOUX FALLS, SD — Augustana dropped two games to Winona State in a mid-week doubleheader.  The Warriors used a pair of home runs in each game and took the first game 6-4 and followed it with a 6-0 win in game two.  The Vikings’ record falls to 14-9, 4-4 in the NSIC, and The Warriors improve to 18-6 and 3-1 in NSIC action.

GAME ONE
Augustana jumped out to a 2-0 lead but the Warriors responded to take a lead for good.  Theresa McMahon led the way with two hits, but and the Vikings only mustered seven as a team compared to WSU’s 11.

McMahon singled to lead off the first inning and circled the bases after a sacrifice and an error set her up to score on a wild pitch.  The Vikings expanded their lead by one run in the third when  Carly Peterson singled to start and was brought home on a sacrifice fly by Lindsay Spanton.

Winona State tied the game with two runs in the fourth, but the Vikings struck back when Cassandra Kranz scored after [inch running for Jordan Schaffer.  The Warriors then hit back-to-back home runs to take a 4-3 lead in the sixth.

Winona State tacked on another run in the sixth and one more in the seventh to expand on a three-run lead.  Augustana appeared to have some fight left when they scored a run in the bottom of the seventh, but it wasn't enough. Winona State won the game 6-4.

Jenelle Trautmann was saddled with her fifth loss of the season giving up all six runs while striking out seven.

GAME TWO
The Viking bats were quieted by Winona State's Ashley Parker and were held scoreless for just the second time this season.  Augustana mustered just four hits while the Warriors tallied double-digit hits, including a three-run home run.

Winona State opened the game with three runs in the first inning off a Walker home run to center field.  The Vikings responded with just one hit never really threatening throughout the whole game.

A triple sparked two more runs for the Warriors in the third and they added one more in the fourth for good measure.  The Vikings never tallied more than one hit in an inning as they fell by a final score of 6-0.

Augustana travels to Central Missouri on Thursday for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
