SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Washington Warriors varsity girls basketball team is now 8-0 following a 59-42 victory over the Lincoln Patriots on Tuesday night.

The only unfortunate for them is that this isn't the old CBA where you win extra points by winning the quarters and sweeping the game.

Washington is ranked #1 in Class AA in our ESPN 99.1, KELO-TV, KBHB Radio poll, and rightfully so. After last night the Warriors have outscored opponents by an average of 35 points per game.

What makes this Warriors team so dangerous is their ability to score from outside and from the paint. Where we've seen other teams struggle trying to get the ball inside, Washington has two powerhouses that can easily get the job done in Sydney Koel, and Michaela Mayer. Last night, Syndey Arrington added to the party in the paint, giving the Warriors even more depth underneath the hoop.

Outside of the paint, Washington is just as strong from the outside with Ellie Benson, Kelsey Knecht, and Hannah Nieman.

The Warriors dominate in the 2-3 zone on defense. They achieve the goal by forcing tough outside shots and not allowing anyone under the hoop for easy buckets. With their defense, the most they have given up in a game was 43 points to Delano, MN. They ended up defeating Delano by 24.

It is early in the season, but from all indication the Washington Warriors are a step ahead of the competition. With a senior led group, and a dominating defense, the Warriors look to be on the right path for a title in Brookings.
