A former South Dakota Mr. Basketball at Vermillion High School and Northern Sun Conference Freshman of the Year at Augustana University is moving up in the basketball world.

Guard A.J. Plitzuweit is transferring to Division I South Dakota, where, because of NCAA transfer rules, he will sit out the 2019-20 season before suiting up for the Coyotes in the 2020-21 season.

Plitzuweit, the 2018 South Dakota Gatorade Player of the Year and Mr. Basketball at Vermillion, after averaging 34 points, nine rebounds and four assists per game as a senior.

He set a Tanninger single-game scoring record when he scored 52 points in a game against Lennox.

At Augie last season he averaged 15 points, four assists, and three rebounds a game en route to landing the NSIC's top freshman honors.

Plitzuweit, the son of Coyote women's basketball head coach Dawn Plitzuweit, will have three years of eligibility remaining in Vermillion.
