From fast start to cruise control led the Americans to a 72-56 victory over the Dominican Republic and a sweep of Group C in the FIBA AmeriCup 2017 tournament.

After notching the first eight points of the contest, the U.S. men were able to keep the Dominicans at arm’s length throughout. Both teams struggled from the outside, but inside the U.S.A. was 18-29 (62 percent) in the painted area while D.R. was 12-30 (40 percent).

Guard Wendell Williams, Jr. had another spectacular showing by hitting 7 of his 11 shots for 15 points with 5 rebounds and 4 steals. Jameel Warney collected 13 points and 9 rebounds while Darrun Hilliard II also had 13 points. Larry Drew II and Kendall Marshall each had 4 assists.

The FIBA AmeriCup Semifinals are set as the Americans play the Virgin Islands on Saturday in Cordoba, Argentina. The winner will face either Mexico or Argentina in the finals on Sunday.

Virgin Islands qualified as the second-place finisher in Group B while Argentina won all three of their games in Group B. Mexico came out of Group A to advance.
