PHOENIX - Authorities say Arizona Cardinals linebacker Daryl Washington has been arrested for allegedly assaulting his ex-girlfriend, who is the mother of his baby daughter.

Maricopa County prosecutors say Washington had his initial court appearance Friday after being booked on suspicion of two counts of aggravated assault.

His bond has been set at $4,200.

A probable cause statement says Washington's ex-girlfriend claims he grabbed her by the throat and shoved her to the ground following an argument at her apartment Wednesday. Police later interviewed her.

Washington led the Cardinals with 134 tackles - 108 of them solo - and nine sacks last season and signed a six-year contract extension in September.

He was suspended for the first four games of the 2013 season for violating the NFL' substance abuse policy.
