MARSHALL, Minn. — At least one Northern Plains retailer isn’t joining the “open on Thanksgiving” Christmas kickoff crowd.

Runnings, which are farm supply and hardware stores, will be closed Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 27, 2014. All of the 37 retail stores through the Midwest and Northeast will be closed.

"For us, the decision to stay closed is an easy one to make,” said Dennis and Adele Reed, owners of Runnings. “At Runnings, our 1,700 employees are like family and we believe that Thanksgiving Day is a national holiday that speaks to the core of what it means to be an American.”

However, Runnings will participate in the Black Friday tradition of opening early.
All Runnings stores will reopen at 5 a.m. Friday, Nov. 28 for a Black Friday sale with discounts storewide.

Runnings’ South Dakota stores are located in Aberdeen, Belle Fourche, Brookings, Gregory, Huron, Mobridge, Parkston, Pierre, Rapid City, Watertown and Winner.
