Local college baseball fans will get to see a familiar face in the Sioux Falls Canaries lineup in 2013.  The birds have signed former Augustana College All-American Nate Baumann.

The Marshall, MN native is Augie's all-time leader in including home runs (49), doubles (49), hits (269), slugging percentage (.712), runs scored (205), RBI (192), total bases (481) and stolen bases in a season (40).

Last season, he played professionally with the Schaumburg Boomers of the independent Frontier League, where he hit .283 with nine home runs and 50 RBI in 86 games.

Canaries Manager Steve Shirley, in a press release from the team said:

We always want to give local guys a chance to play here in Sioux Falls.  Nate can really hit.  We’re glad to have him and see what he can do for us.

The Canaries open the season at Sioux City May 16th. The same two teams play in Sioux Falls, May 17th.
