VERMILLION, S.D. (AP) - Kole Beeson scored on a 38-yard pass with 1:08 to play as Avon came from behind to beat Hamlin 24-22 in the state 9B championship game Friday.

Logan Mudder found Beeson, who weaved his way down the sideline to tie the game. Devin Tolsma's PAT run provided the game-winning points as the Pirates (12-0) claimed their fifth state championship.

Cody Namminga's interception sealed the win.

Hamlin (11-1) took a 22-8 halftime lead on two touchdowns by Ryder Grantham and a TD pass from Brody Grantham to Austin Niemann. But the Chargers failed on one PAT pass, leaving the door open for Avon.

Brody Grantham ran for 154 yards and a score and threw for two scores. Ryder Grantham had 48 yards receiving.

Brandon Kocmich led Avon with 99 yards rushing and Tolsma added 94. Each had a touchdown and Kocmich had 42 yards receiving.

Hamlin had 330 total yards. Avon finished with 306.
