CINCINNATI (AP) - The Atlanta Braves have activated catcher Brian McCann, a six-time All-Star who has been recovering from surgery to fix his throwing shoulder last October.

McCann was in the starting lineup for the opening game of a series against the Cincinnati Reds on Monday night.

McCann has been sidelined by a torn labrum. He played in seven games as part of a rehabilitation assignment at Class A and Triple-A, batting .348 with one double, four homers and nine RBIs.

The Braves optioned utility player Tyler Pastornicky to Triple-A Gwinnett to open a roster spot.
