GARY, IN -- The Sioux Falls Canaries missed a chance to take a second straight game in Gary, instead allowing the RailCats to even the series with an 8-3 win.

Canaries starter Kyle Vazquez kept the RailCats off the board in the 1st, but allowed runs in the following two innings.  Josh Romanski drove in Craig Maddox in the 2nd and Maddox hit a sacrifice fly in the 3rd to hand the Canaries a 2-0 deficit.

After missing a chance in the 5th by stranding a pair of runners, the Canaries got on the board in the 6th when Steve Tinoco doubled and came around to score on Chris Valencia's sacrifice fly.  The run pulled the Canaries to within 2-1, but that was as close as they would get.

Romanski's hot bat drove in two more runs with a triple in the 6th and after a Ryan Brockett bunt scored Romanski, the RailCats held a commanding 5-1 lead.

Vazquez's day was done after the 6th and he finished his night having allowed five runs on seven hits while striking out five and walking one.  He took the loss tonight dropping his record to 2-3.

Chris Duffy's solo homerun gave the Canaries a glimmer of hope in the 7th and that was enhanced by a Stephen Branca ensuing double.  That spelled the end of the night for RailCats starter Stephen Hiscock, who was relieved by Ethan Gibbons.  Gibbons allowed Branca to come around and score on an RBI groundout from Kevin Dultz, but avoided any further damange and the RailCats still led 5-3 at the 7th inning stretch.

Kye Winter pitched a scoreless 7th for the Canaries, but ran into problems in the 8th, giving up three runs, including Romanski's 4th RBI and a homerun to former Canary Drew Muren. Erick Gonzalez came in to record the final two outs of the 8th, but by then it was 8-3 and Kevin Brahney shut the door on the Canaries in order to end the game in the 9th.

Hiscock improved to 3-3 with the win after throwing 6+ innings and allowing three runs on six hits, while striking out seven and walking one.

Tinoco and Duffy each finished the day with multi-hit games for the Canaries.

The teams return to action Wednesday night at 7:10 PM with Joe Bircher on the mound for the Canaries.
