SIOUX FALLS, SD -- The Sioux Falls Canaries added a key piece to their roster by signing catcher Steve Domecus on Thursday.

Domecus, 25, has played three seasons in the Los Angeles Dodgers system.  The San Francisco native played in 22 games last season with the high Class A Rancho Cucamonga Quakes and batted .277 with seven doubles, a triple and eight RBI.  For his career, Domecus has hit .269 with nine home runs and 54 RBI in 116 games.

The Dodgers selected Domecus in the ninth round of the 2010 draft out of Virginia Tech University, where he swatted a school record 22 doubles in his final year. He previously played at UC-Santa Barbara and Moorpark College.

The Sioux Falls Canaries begin their 21st season on May 16, 2013. Their home opener is May 17 against the Sioux City Explorers.
