Conservatives Push for NFL, NBA, MLB Franchises in Britain
LONDON (AP) — Britain's Conservative Party says it will push for American football, basketball and baseball franchises to be based in the country.
The pledge features in the manifesto launched by Prime Minister David Cameron on Tuesday ahead of next month's general election.
The NFL and NBA have been playing regular-season games in London for several years. And a study last year by accountancy firm Deloitte, commissioned by the NFL, showed that a franchise in London could generate more than $250 million a year for the country.
The Conservative Party manifesto says "we will support new sports in the U.K., in particular through greater links with the U.S. National Football League, the National Basketball Association and Major League Baseball, with the ultimate ambition of new franchises being based here."
