With 73 cases of COVID-19 reported on Thursday, the South Dakota Department of Health reports the state's death total now is 59. There are 1,063 active cases of the coronavirus and 95 people are hospitalized.

Health officials are still encouraging people to take the necessary steps in order to continue to be safe such as practicing good hygiene, social distancing, and wearing a mask when out in public.

After a partial reopening to the public on May 18th, the Washington Pavilion will move on to the second phase.

The Washington Pavilion in downtown Sioux Falls is continuing the process of reopening after it was temporarily closed due to COVID-19. This Monday, June 1 the Kirby Science Discovery Center and Visual Arts Center Museums will open along with the Wells Fargo CineDome Theater. Summer Camp Education Programs and Dakota Academy of Performing Arts Youth Camps will also be open.

The South Dakota High School Activities Association announced that schools can begin summer sports contact depending on the amount of contact and the transmission likelihood of the COVID-19 virus.

The Sioux Falls "no mingling" ordinance has ended.

Volunteers have been working on weekly food boxes for those served by the Salvation Army by delivering them to families. Others are serving meals at "Sallie's Table", a local weekend feeding program held at the Salvation Army every Saturday and Sunday.

Department of Labor and Regulation reminds unemployment claimants who have been placed on a temporary layoff related to COVID-19 that they must return to work if called back to remain eligible for benefits.

The CDC is recommending the use of a cloth face covering to keep people who are infected but do not have symptoms from spreading COVID-19 to others.
