LONDON (AP) — Darren Clarke says he could ask Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard to address Europe's Ryder Cup team before it takes on the United States at Hazeltine next year.

Clarke, who was selected as captain of the European team in February, described Gerrard is a "real legend" and said "if I were to do something like that, he would be someone I would consider."

Paul McGinley, who Clarke succeeded as captain, arranged for former Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson to speak to Europe's players before the Ryder Cup in Gleneagles last year. Europe won 16½-11½ for a third straight victory.

Gerrard, who is among Liverpool's greatest players, will leave the club at the end of this season after 17 years and join the Los Angeles Galaxy in Major League Soccer.
