Denmark Coach Morten Olsen Won’t Renew His Contract next Year
COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) — Denmark coach Morten Olsen says he has decided not to renew his contract after next year's European Championship.
Olsen, who has been coaching Denmark since 2000 and took the Danes to four major championships, says "it is time to find my successor."
Under Olsen, Denmark qualified for the 2002 and 2010 World Cups, and the Euro 2004 and 2012 tournaments. He is the first Dane to reach 100 national team matches both as a player and coach.
The 65-year-old Olsen says he didn't want to have "disturbing elements" such as speculations about his future, and wants to focus on Euro 2016.
Olsen says he has not yet decided what to do after July 1, 2016, when his present contract expires.
