UPDATE: Drake Springs Recreation Pool will reopen today at 1 p.m. following a fecal incident yesterday. Fortunately, the three bodies of water at Drake Springs Family Aquatic Center run on different filter systems, which allowed the lazy river and lap pool to stay open. “Since the recreation pool is also a separate smaller body of water, we were able to concentrate our efforts and get the chlorine levels stable again,” stated Loren Beard, District Park Supervisor.

What's being called a "diarrheal incident" forced the closing of the Drake Springs Recreation Pool in Sioux Falls on Wednesday.

Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation officials say both federal and city guidelines call for chlorine levels in the pool to be substantially elevated and maintained for a time in order to disinfect the water. But since the three pools at Drake Springs run on different filter systems, the "lazy river" and lap pool will remain open.

The Recreation Pool is expected to reopen at 1:00 p.m. Friday.
