For years Jason Peters manned the left tackle position for the Philadelphia Eagles and did it at a hall of fame level.

This season has been a rough one for Peters, who was signed to fill in for Brandon Brooks at right guard, but an injury to Andre Dillard forced him back to left tackle, where he struggled.

Peters missed three games with a toe injury and was replaced by Jordan Mailata, who played well.  When Peters returned, he went back to left tackle and really struggled, so the team moved him over to the right guard spot that lasted all of 36 snaps before going down.

Peters will have surgery on his broken toe injury that limited him the past few weeks, ending his season and possibly his career, though according to John Clark of NBC Sports Philadelphia, Peters would like to play again next season.

"Let me just go right here and just tell you that Jason Peters is going to miss the rest of the season. He has elected to have surgery on his foot, on his toe," Eagles head coach Doug Pederson said on Friday.

"I'm going to tell you something: It's an injury that we've known about and he's literally battled through it. He's done everything he can for this football team. I appreciate him a lot. He means a lot to me personally, not only on the field, but off the field as well, and so he's going to be missed."

"He wanted to be out there with his teammates for the remainder of the season. It's just to the point now where the injury is a little bit too bad for him to continue, so he'll have surgery and miss the rest of the season."

"So Nate Herbig will be the right guard."
