SIOUX FALLS - When Elizabeth Smart was kidnapped from her Utah home in 2002 I had a 7-year-old, 5-year-old and a 2-year-old. Her story was terrifying for anyone with children. I’m sure I checked, double checked and triple checked the locks on our doors every night before we went to bed. I bet I’m not the only mother who did that.

Elizabeth Smart is now a motivational speaker and will be sharing her message as the keynote speaker at the Sales and Marketing Executives Women in Business event in Sioux Falls on April 30.

Smart tells the story of her abduction but her emphasis is on overcoming adversity and how not to let your past dictate your life’s future. Because of her traumatic experience she has become an advocate for child abduction programs and has led the charge on safety legislation to prevent child abductions through the Elizabeth Smart Foundation.

She studies music at Brigham Young University with an emphasis in harp performance and she also works as an ABC News Correspondent.

Trade show booths are still available. The day is filled with information for women, entertainment and dinner. Tickets are $70 and still available for the SME Women in Business event.  For more information call 605-336-5626
