ABERDEEN, SD -- Four players scored in double figures as Ethan ended White River's two-year reign with a 73-62 win over the Tigers on Thursday at the South Dakota Class B boys basketball tournament.

Blake Bartscher went 16-for-18 from the line and finished with 23 points for the Rustlers (21-3), who shot 53 percent from the field. They also made 30 of 37 free throws.

The Rustlers held the two-time defending champions to 41 percent shooting.

Jace Connor had 18 points, Camden Myers 17 and Tyler Myers 11 for Ethan.

White River (19-5), which had played in six straight state championship games, got 22 points from Tavis Burbank and 12 from Justin Prue.

PLATTE-GEDDES 58, LANGFORD AREA 50
ABERDEEN, SD -- Platte-Geddes' Coby Johnson scored 28 points as the Black Panthers beat Langford Area 58-50 Thursday at the South Dakota Class B boys basketball tournament.

Johnson's three-point play as time ran out at the end of the third quarter gave Platte-Geddes (18-6) its first lead of the game at 34-33. Langford never led again.

Johnson was 9-for-15 and hauled in 12 rebounds. Carter Dykstra had 12 points.

The Panthers shot 58 percent.

Langford (21-3) got 19 points from Bo Fries and 13 points and six rebounds from Drew Planteen.

The Lions shot 41 percent.

 

POTTER COUNTY 61, FAITH 58
ABERDEEN, SD -- Potter County outscored Faith 30-16 in fourth quarter Thursday to beat Faith 61-58 in the first round of the South Dakota Class B boys basketball tournament.

The Battlers (22-2) trailed 39-31 heading into the fourth quarter.

Four Potter County players reached double figures, led by Kole Hawkinson and Caleb Meinke with 17 points each, Chayce Hall had 12 and Tanner Storer 10. Hawkinson had four of the Battlers' eight 3-pointers.

Tyler Hohenberger led Faith (19-4) with 25 points. He made six of 14 field goals and made 13 of 17 free throw attempts. He also grabbed 11 rebounds.

Jarius Halligan had 15 points.

 

JAMES VALLEY CHRISTIAN 85, CENTERVILLE 68
ABERDEEN, SD -- Nathan Wedel scored 34 points to lead James Valley Christian to an 85-68 win over Centerville Thursday at the South Dakota Class B boys basketball tournament.

Wedel made 13 of 17 shots from the field, including 4 of 5 3-pointers. He was 4-for-5 from the free throw line and grabbed six rebounds.

Alex Waldner and Andrew Ulvestad tossed in 17 points apiece for the Vikings (23-1), who shot 57 percent from the field.

Seamus O'Malley had 25 points and eight rebounds for Centerville (17-7). Rory O'Malley added 14 points and Josh DeRaad 11.
