Former Michigan State wide receiver and top NFL pick Charles Rogers is dead at the age of 38.

According to Mlive.com, Rogers was recently diagnosed with cancer and passed away from liver failure.

Coming out of Michigan State, most people thought he was going to be a ten year NFL vet and that he would be a force for whatever team he landed on.

That hype helped propel him up the draft boards and the Detroit Lions took him with the second overall pick in the 2003 NFL Draft.

It was a combination of off the field issues, injuries and lack of performance though that would eventually force Rogers out of the NFL.

He never was able to live up to that #2 pick hype that he had prior to entering the league.

Michigan State issued a statement as well on Rogers passing:

"We are deeply saddened to learn the news of Charles Rogers passing away. We send our condolences to his family, friends and former teammates during this difficult time."
