Former Pheasants catcher Eddy Rodriguez is making a strong bid to land a spot with the San Diego Padres at the major league level this season.

So far in five Spring Training games with the big club this season, Rodriguez is hitting .500 (3-for-6) with a double, home run, and three RBI.

Behind the plate, he's caught 17 innings, thrown out one base runner and allowed no stolen bases.

Last spring, Rodriguez hit .250 in four games for the Padres.

He was called up later in the year, appearing in two games, with five at bats, one home run and three strike outs.
