Former Sioux Falls Stampede standout Thomas Vanek has made a name for himself in the NHL with his tremendous play since he entered the league with the Buffalo Sabers.

The twenty nine year old has always called Buffalo home since beginning his NHL career, but now will call New York his new home.

The New York Islanders on Sunday traded for Vanek.

The Sabers received forward Matt Moulson, a first-round pick in 2014 and a second-round pick in 2015.

The Islanders are optimistic about the 2013-2014 season and current sit in third place in the newly formed Metropolitan division of the Eastern Conference.

The Sabers on the other hand are in last place in the Atlantic division of the Eastern Conference and are looking forward to the future.
