EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (AP) — Minnesota Vikings coach Leslie Frazier says he would welcome the chance to work with cornerback Antoine Winfield again.

Winfield retired last weekend after he was cut by the Seattle Seahawks. Winfield spent nine seasons in Minnesota before he was abruptly cut this offseason in a cost-saving move. The Vikings tried to bring him back at a reduced salary, but Winfield signed with the Seahawks instead.

Seattle decided to go with the younger Walter Thurmond as the team’s nickel cornerback over the 36-year-old Winfield.

The Vikings could use a veteran presence in a young defensive backfield.

Frazier says if Winfield wants to play he would “welcome the opportunity” to work with him again. But if Winfield is retired, Frazier says he wishes him the best.
