It looks as if even Rockstar can't avoid taking a dip in the microtransaction pool, as new reports have surfaced indicating Grand Theft Auto 5's GTA Online may feature some pay-to-play functionality.

According to CVG, there will apparently be in-game cash cards for purchase in GTA Online. The potential purchasable items were uncovered in the in-game store's XML files. When you try to access the store from the pause menu, the game reaches out for a file on Rockstar's servers. That file purportedly included the first mention of these cash cards, which range from $100,000 to $1,250,000 in denomination.

The files also include the following description of said cards, giving some credence to the report. "Cash is king in this town. Solve your money problems and help get what you want across Los Santos and Blaine County with the purchase of cash packs for Grand Theft Auto Online," the files stated. "All purchased cash is automatically deposited into your character's bank account. Spend wisely, cash therapy is fleeting."

Microtransactions have become a hot-button topic in recent months, but as long as Rockstar isn't over-reaching with pay-to-win items, the reaction from the fanbase shouldn't be too outrageous. Then again, these are GTA fans we're talking about.
