Have you DUG the Wall Sports Complex?
I recently had the opportunity to head west and came across a landmark as out of the ordinary as any I've seen. I'm talking about the sports complex at Wall, South Dakota.
My son Logan coaches football at Kadoka, and had his team at Wall for a Jamboree. When you pull up to the field, you can tell this is the real deal. There are loads of colleges around the nation that would drool at the thought of having such a facility. According to USDA Gov;
Wall’s School District’s athletic facilities were inadequate and in poor condition. The track was so bad the students had to run in the street and the football stadium was on the opposite side of town as the school, a huge inconvenience for all of the support elements involved in the game.
I remember playing football on the old field at Wall in the late 70's. It was rough. It got me wondering, where did the money come from to build such a facility?
Using the Rural Economic Development Loan Program and working with West River Electric Association, the district received a $720,000 loan to build a new athletic complex near the school.
It's an awesome facility. After your trip to Wall Drug, you should make it a point to check out the facility on the west edge of town. Incidentally, many Wall and other area schools are also taking part in youth football programs in Rapid City. Getting kids out on the fields playing football at an earlier age will help them catch up with the east river players.
It's impressive. Two thumbs up. When your in Wall, make sure you check it out!
