SIOUX FALLS, SD -- The Sioux Falls Stampede announced Wednesday that they have acquired defenseman Peter Hand from the Indiana Ice. To make room on the roster, the Herd have assigned Reed Whiteside and Brandon Parker to the Brookings Blizzard of the North American Hockey League.

Hand is in his fourth season in the USHL. The Schenectady, NY native played with the Chicago Steel from 2009-2011 before spending last season in Waterloo and Indiana. In 29 games this season, Hand has posted 13 points (2g, 11a) with a +1 rating and 63 penalty minutes. He was named CCM Defenseman of the Week for the week of November 26th after posting five points and a +5 rating in two games.

The 5-foot-9, 190-pound defenseman posted two points (1g, 1a) and was a +9 in 21 games with the Ice last season and finished the year with seven points and 122 penalty minutes combined. During the 2010-11 season in Chicago, Hand led the team with 164 penalty minutes.

“We wanted to solidify our defensive core and add some veteran experience on the blue line,” said Stampede head coach Cary Eades. “Peter is a feisty, competitive defenseman that should fit in well with the rest of our team.”

Hand is en route to Sioux Falls and is expected to join the team in time for practice on Thursday and will be available to play this weekend when the Stampede travel to Lincoln and Sioux City.
