Hope Solo is Becoming a Bad Look for Team USA

Hope Solo is the greatest goalie in the history of men's and women's soccer in the United States in my opinion.

At the same time though, she has become one of the biggest disruptions Team USA has ever had as well.

Her recent comments about Sweden being "cowards" following the US being bounced from the Olympics by them has now landed her a 6 month suspension.  In addition, they have terminated her contract as well.

This isn't the first time that Solo has come under fire as of late, as many remember her recent domestic violence issue in which she was described as the assailant in that case involving some of her family members.

According to CBS Sports, U.S Soccer President Sunil Gulati said:

"The comments by Hope Solo after the match against Sweden during the 2016 Olympics were unacceptable and do not meet the standard of conduct we require from our national team players. Beyond the athletic arena, and beyond the results, the Olympics celebrate and represent the ideals of fair play and respect. We expect all of our representatives to honor those principles, with no exceptions.

The President went on to say, "Taking into consideration the past incidents involving Hope, as well as the private conversations we've had requiring her to conduct herself in a manner befitting a U.S. national team member, U.S. Soccer determined this is the appropriate disciplinary action."

Even though I think that severing ties with Solo is the appropriate measure at this junction, others may disagree including Solo and others representing the US Women's National Team.

Grant Wahl from Fox Sports reported what those parties had to say in response to the suspension and contract termination.

Other supporters of Solo may also point to her continued involvement in the discussions surrounding pay for pro women's athletes and her continued effort to get women's pay to be equal of that of the men as one of the reasons for her recent punishment.

I don't believe that any of that has come into play in this decision and in fact, this is more about Team USA wanting a fresh start from what has been a tumultuous few years with Solo in net considering the controversy she has brought on herself off the pitch.
