HURON - The director of the Huron Chamber and Visitor's Bureau says the city is a finalist to host the National Junior High Finals Rodeo in 2016 and 2017.

Peggy Woolridge tells KOKK rodeo that says the rodeo that could be held at the Grandstand at the South Dakota State Fairgrounds would mean nearly $10.5 million over two years for Huron.

Woolridge says the organization in charge of the event will be sending a delegation at the end of February to look at Huron's potential site.

Beadle County and the city of Huron have agreed to provide in-kind labor, including dirt work to create multiple rodeo arenas at the Grandstand if the event is awarded to Huron.

The 11-day rodeo draws about 1,000 contestants in grades 6, 7 and 8.
