It’s About Time. Brett Favre’s Number to be Retired by the Packers

It took quite a few years for forgiveness, but the Green Bay Packers will officially retire the number of Brett Favre in 2015.

The date and time, outside of 2015, of the retirement ceremony are yet to be disclosed. The Packers made the announcement on Sunday night, along with a statement from Brett Favre on his website.

"I'm pleased to announce that I will be returning to Green Bay, Wisconsin in 2015 for induction into the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame and retirement of my jersey." - Brett Favre, Officialbrettfavre.com

 

Favre played with the Packers from 1992-2007. Over the course of his NFL career, which included stints with the New York Jets and hated Minnesota Vikings, Favre threw for 71,838 yards and 508 touchdowns. Favre helped the Packers win a Super Bowl in 1996, and was a three time MVP of the NFL.

One more year will be given for the fans/organization/Favre to let go of the end of the reign. With all the angst that surrounded Favre not sitting behind Aaron Rodgers, retiring...partly, leaving for the New York Jets, retiring again....maybe not, then putting on the purple jersey in Minnesota and almost getting to another Super Bowl, fans of Favre from his Packers days will have another moment to breathe.

Favre deserves this, and the organization deserves to celebrate one of the best quarterbacks to ever play the game. They will finally do so in 2015, and it's about time.
