HAMMOND, LA -- A first inning RBI single from Elyse Eitel and a 2 RBI double from Sammy Bingham in the same frame staked the South Dakota State softball team to a 3-0 lead that they would not give up in a 7-3 win over Texas Southern on Sunday in the final game of the Jimmy John's Lion Classic II in Hammond, La.

The Jackrabbits improve to 4-6 with the win, while the Tigers fall to 6-2.

Texas Southern cut the lead to 3-2 with a pair of runs in the third, but Eitel got one back with a leadoff homerun to start the Jacks half of the third to put SDSU on top 4-2.

Marlee Petersen put the game out of reach the fifth with a three run bomb over the fence in left field that gave the Jacks a 7-2 lead.

The Tigers got one back in the sixth, but Jackrabbit starter Kori Seidlitz ended the threat, and the inning, with one of her six strikeouts in the game. Seidlitz scattered 13 hits in the complete game win, walking just one in earning her second win of the season.

The Jacks look to start their first winning streak of the season on Friday, when they travel to Bowling Green Ky., to take on Western Kentucky in the first of five games at the Holiday Inn Hilltopper Classic, hosted by Western Kentucky, at 10:30 a.m.
